Full Name: Stanislaw Aleksy Balrik
Nationality: Imperial (with distant blood ties to Kislev)
Age: 29
Career: Witch Hunter and member of the Order of Sigmar
Career Rank: 40
Renown Rank: 20
Guild: The Laughing Host
Description: He's a thin man of slight height (5'8") and unimpressive frame. His hair is limp and brown in color, though direct sunlight reveals a surprisingly brilliant red sheen. Stanislaw looks as though he's lived a simple life, though his ruddy skin has recently started to lose some of its roughness. There is a scar on his left cheek, which looks like it was caused by some sort of blade. Some find this man strikingly naive - he looks to be about thirty years of age, but knows very little about the world at large, and speaks in an unsophisticated sort of way. At times, his mannerisms can be downright boyish.
Stan has lost most of the jumpiness people have known him for. He no longer peers into the shadowy corners of rooms looking for something after his immortal soul. Talk of vice and indulgence still irritates the man. He's normally seen wearing a number of holy images and makes frequent mention of Sigmar - frequent enough to make some uncomfortable, for sure.
Background: Born as the youngest son of a woman widowed by war, Stan was raised with a rock-solid faith in Sigmar and an appreciation for a simpler kind of life. Unlike his father and older brothers, Stan did not march to aid neighboring Kislev when he reached adulthood. The cold nation had claimed their lives, and so he was spared, with the intention of marrying and having a family of his own.
He married Lidia Schumacher, the only child of a rather successful tradesman who'd recently moved to their small town. Lidia was a good-hearted woman, but was unaccustomed to the sort of life Stan valued. It was a conflict they found themselves unable, or perhaps unwilling, to resolve, and so a rift quickly developed.
After nearly three years of marriage, Stan's distrust for Lidia became overwhelming, and he followed her to one of her ever-more-frequent evening excursions. Exactly what he expected to find was unclear, but regardless, the truth was worse. Lidia, along with many of the other citizens of the town, were paying secret homage to the Chaos God Slaanesh, the Prince of Excess.
Hurt and betrayed, he returned to their home to confront Lidia alone. His upbringing had taught him that Sigmar could save a soul from the taint of Chaos if He deemed the soul worthy, and so he was relieved when his wife admitted freely to her wrongdoing. However, instead of seeking redemption, she asked him to join her in the pursuit of profane pleasures. The temptation was nearly overwhelming. Stan would later claim it was Sigmar's direct intervention, and not his own stubbornness, that gave him the will to reject those heretical gifts and instead kill his wife, fleeing to the next town while his hands were still coated in her blood.
Everything he'd known was gone in the span of a day. Stan's testimony sent Witch Hunters to burn his town the very next night, leaving him to go to his sister (who'd already married and moved away) to grieve. He'd lost his innocence. There was no going back to the sort of life he'd led before. Instead, he later began training to become a Witch Hunter himself, preferring to give his shattered life to the unpleasant existence of routing out corruption than to leave other towns to suffer the same fate his own faced.
Slaanesh continues to be the subject of most interest to him. For the last few years, he'd believed himself to be under direct and personal assault from the forces of Excess - everything that called to his more indulgent desires was seen as a trap. However, something has changed recently. Somehow, Stan has risen above his weakness, or at least he believes he has.
Personality Quirks/Mannerisms: Stanislaw has suffered from a stuttering problem since learning of Slaanesh and His gifts. He falters in the presence of anything he'd deem potentially tempting - nowadays, that mostly means rich-smelling foods.
There is a distinct visual change in his behavior when he goes from being one man among many to a self-imagined instrument of Sigmar's will. As a man, he is timid and indecisive, and his constant cringing and twitching tends to cast him in a very unflattering light. When doing Sigmar's work, he acts with little apparent regard for his own safety. In both roles, he views the execution of the wicked as the ultimate act of mercy, a fact that tends to bother others.
When meeting a woman for the first time, Stan will almost always ask about whatever facial scars or other irregularities she has.
He has an intense dislike for wearing bright, fancy clothing. He will only do so when performing duties on behalf of the Laughing Host - otherwise, he prefers clothing that is ragged, oversized and brown in color.
Though it hasn't occurred recently, Stan has a history of anxiety-induced hallucinations and nightmares.
Stan is a eunuch. He doesn't often speak of it, but that has more to do with the "ignorant" opinion others have of human castration than any sense of shame. Like many other of his past deeds, Stan claims to have done it in Sigmar's name and by His will.
Passions/Loves: Stan is a passionate Sigmarite, though his faith tends to express itself in the form of righteous anger, as opposed to the serenity and confidence others draw from religion.
On the other side of the coin, Stan is also passionate in his hunt to lessen Slaanesh's influence in the world. He's spent considerable time and effort studying Order of Sigmar records, and consolidating much of what he's learned into a book of notes that he keeps under lock and key.
He is a fierce defender of what he perceives to be innocence in females of all ages. Given Stan's repressed, fanatical nature, his standard for "true" innocence isn't conducive to what many would call a full and enriched life.
Though his work tends to keep him in cities and towns, Stan loves to spend time in the wilderness. Hunting, fishing, hiking, that sort of thing.
Hatreds/Pet Peeves: "Vice-peddlers", drunks, the unpredictable and/or uncontrollable, cities. Being the irritable creature he is, Stan will find something to dislike about anyone and anything.
Hobbies: Stan enjoys whittling. Of all his hobbies, that is the one he's most likely to do while in the company of others.
Though he has no idea how to utilize it well, Stan has an unusual animal affinity. Mostly he uses it to determine an animal's health and temperament more easily than others. He and his new horse (Maryla) are still adjusting to each other, but in time he'll likely return to riding for pleasure as well as travel.
As a Waymaster of the Laughing Host, Stan has a keen interest in telling and listening to tales. He prefers those that are Imperial in origin, since foreign ones - especially Elven ones - are harder to understand in full.
Stan can juggle fairly well. He's only practiced with round objects (like apples). However, he hasn't juggled in years, and rarely feels whimsical enough to take it back up.
