In the following post, we'll provide some general guidelines for roleplaying here in the Kiss of Chroesh forums. These ground rules are no better or worse than any other set of recommendations for roleplaying; we offer them in order to avoid the misunderstandings and bad feelings that can arise between players proceeding on different assumptions. If we all play by the same rules, then we'll be able to tell wonderful stories without any friction.
The guiding principle of roleplaying on this site is that character integrity must be maintained. In practice, this means:
1. Do not write for someone else's character. You may write about what your character is doing, and about the actions of characters not played by another person (NPCs), but you should avoid dialogue or action from another PC. It's up to that player to decide how their character speaks and acts.
2. Do not write about doing anything to someone else's character. When you write that your character has taken another character's hand, or grabbed him by the throat, or knocked him from his horse, you make assumptions about that character's abilities and state of mind with which the other player might not agree. One may attempt to do things to another PC, but the success of those actions shouldn't be assumed in the writing.
3. If you do want to write for someone else's character, or write about doing something to them, consult the other player first. Send a PM outlining your plans and asking whether the other player thinks your post would be appropriate for their character. Often, they will happily agree to your idea, but it's respectful to pitch it privately before writing about it.
By following these simple rules, we'll ensure that everyone retains creative control over their own characters even in situations where conflict arises between them. Whatever nastiness might occur in the stories themselves, it will happen with the understanding and consent of all the writers involved.
